Santa Rosa Beach is a world-class travel destination, known for its natural scenic beauty, turquoise waters and sugar sand beaches. Travel + Leisure magazine recently named Santa Rosa Beach as one of the “Best Beaches on Earth” for families. In 2011, Yahoo! Travel named Santa Rosa Beach one of the “10 Best Beach Destinations.”

Santa Rosa Beach is located along a 26-mile stretch of Northwest Florida’s famed Emerald Coast, along 30A on the panhandle. It lies on the southern shores of Choctawhatchee Bay, more precisely Hogtown Bayou.

Santa Rosa Beach is one of 16 district beach neighborhoods in South Walton County, each with its own traditions, charm and visual style. The community of Santa Rosa Beach offers luxury beach houses, upscale dining and the unique artist colony known as Gulf Place.

Santa Rosa Beach offers several access points into Point Washington State Forest, a 15,000-acre preserve with more than 10 natural communities. Point Washington offers three trail systems that are used for hiking and biking. The Eastern Lake Trail System was the first trail established in the forest; it consists of three double-track loop trails with 3.5, 5 or 10 mile loops.

Many people like to go camping at Eastern Lake Campground located near the head of the Eastern Lake Trail. There are four primitive campsites available. The area is ideal for paddle boarding on Eastern Lake; The Gulf of Mexico is also accessible from the campground area.

Topsail Hill Preserve Park is also a popular summer destination, especially for families. The park has over three miles of white sand beaches, lakes, unique plant life and wetlands. Topsail Hill, the namesake of the park itself, stands nearly 25 feet above sea level. Topsail Hill Preserve is home to a wide variety of animal life, including endangered species such as the Choctawhatchee Beach mouse.

Topsail Hill Park is knows for bicycling, birding, fishing and hiking. Full service camping facilities are also available.

The main attraction to Santa Rosa Beach is, of course, the beautiful beaches. Families love to set up their chairs and umbrellas and spend the day building sand castles, jumping waves, walking along the beach, riding boogie boards and skim boarding. There is easy beach access with plenty of benches nearby that make it easy to rinse off. Beautiful sunsets are a common end to wonderful days spent on the beach!
